Patient FAQs

Our focus is on patients and those who care for them.

General Questions

We see the need to provide better diagnostic tools for examining suspected central nervous system  tumors. At Belay Diagnostics, we use proprietary molecular testing technology to evaluate gene alterations and help doctors diagnose and treat brain malignancies. Our tests provide in-depth genomic information that identify and characterize a patient’s unique genes as well as how they interact with each other, oftentimes less invasively and more expediently. This is essential when evaluating a central nervous system condition. Belay tests are innovations based on extensive scientific research at Johns Hopkins University, one of the world’s premier institutions for oncology.

Our mission is to serve patients and those who care for them. We are here to help.

Belay Diagnostics is a pioneer in developing and performing advanced testing using a patient’s individual cerebrospinal fluid. Your clinician would be in the best position to review the test with you to ensure that your complete medical history and other health information is incorporated into the conversation.

How does billing work at Belay?

Belay Diagnostics is committed to helping patients access our advanced testing services. Through BelayPromise, our Billing team will complete a benefits review for each Summit and/or Vantage test ordered and describe all available options to patients. We reach out to any patient we anticipate will have an out-of-pocket cost. We do offer financial assistance for eligible patients.

Commercial health plan coverage depends on the applicable health plan’s medical policy and individual patient benefit levels. Pursuant to the medical criteria within the patient’s policy or in-network status, a patient’s financial responsibility may vary.

What is BelayPromise?

The BelayPromise program supports providers and their patients through the coverage and billing process with the following initiatives:

  • Patient Outreach
    • We reach out to all patients with expected out-of-pocket costs
  • Prior Authorizations
    • We help obtain prior authorizations (PAs) when required
  • Appeals Support
    • We bill the patient’s health plan for the test and appeal denials as necessary and with the patient’s consent

Are Summit+Vantage covered by insurance?

Belay accepts all commercial insurance plans. Your out-of-pocket costs may vary depending on your plan benefits. Please see details on BelayAccess Program (BAP) above to see how we can help with costs.

What happens if insurance denies coverage?

If coverage is denied, Belay will file an appeal(s) with your insurance company to pursue coverage on your behalf. We may contact you or your physician for assistance during the appeal process, as needed.

What happens if my insurance company sends a check to me for my Belay Summit + Vantage test?

Belay will contact you about the amount owed once we are notified by your insurance company. You may pay Belay directly or endorse the check from your insurance company to Belay Diagnostics by signing the back of the check on the top line of the endorsement area and writing “Pay to the order of Belay Diagnostics” on the second line along with the date.

I received an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from insurance, what should I do next?

An Explanation of Benefits (EOB) is NOT a bill; it is communication from your insurance company regarding the services you received. It shows services that were billed to insurance and what insurance covered. An EOB may not require payment even if there is a stated amount due for patient responsibility.

Does Belay Diagnostics offer financial assistance to patients?

Yes, Belay Diagnostics offers financial assistance for patients that qualify. To apply, please see BelayAccess Program (BAP) above.

Does Belay accept Medicare and Medicaid?
